Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 10, 2026
Hence is a product of Fintentional, Inc. ("Fintentional," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you visit our websites, join our waitlist, or use the Hence application and related services (together, the "Services").
1. Information we collect
Information you provide. When you create an account or join the waitlist, we collect information such as your name, email address, and authentication credentials. As you use the Services, you may also provide profile details, household information, financial goals, and the content of messages you send to us or within the Services.
Financial account information. If you choose to connect a financial account, we receive information from that account through our data-access provider, Plaid Inc. ("Plaid"). This can include account identifiers, balances, transactions, and holdings. Plaid's handling of your information is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. We never receive or store the login credentials for your financial institutions.
Information collected automatically. Like most online services, we collect device and usage information — such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps — using cookies and similar technologies, and through service providers that help us with analytics, performance, and error monitoring.
2. How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and personalize the Services, including generating financial insights and guidance for you.
- To manage the waitlist and communicate with you about your account, early access, and product updates.
- To secure the Services, prevent fraud and abuse, and debug and improve features.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
AI-generated features. Parts of the Services use artificial-intelligence models to analyze the information you provide (including connected account data) and produce personalized guidance. That processing may be performed by third-party AI model providers acting as our service providers under contractual confidentiality and use restrictions.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only with:
- Service providers that support the Services — for example hosting, authentication, financial data access (Plaid), analytics, error monitoring, email delivery, and AI model providers — under agreements limiting their use of it.
- Legal and safety recipients, when required by law or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- Successors in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
- Others with your direction or consent.
4. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services and for legitimate business or legal purposes, such as security, dispute resolution, and compliance. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
When you delete your account, we wait seven days before anything is removed, so that you can cancel. After that, deletion completes within 30 days for application data, plus up to 28 days for relational backup erasure and up to 30 days for R2 lifecycle erasure. We keep a minimal record that the deletion happened, so that we can honor it and can tell that the account was deleted rather than never created.
If you share a household with someone else, that household and its financial data stay with them; your membership and your profile in it are removed. A household where you are the only member is deleted with your account.
Starting over clears your households, your financial profile and the product's Ask history. It does not delete your account, and it does not delete the usage analytics we already hold. If you share a household with someone else, then while a reset runs the other member cannot change household members or invitations, and afterwards you appear to them as a former member.
5. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest for sensitive data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your choices and rights
- Deleting your account. You can delete your account yourself in the app, under Settings. We email you a confirmation, and nothing is removed for seven days, so you can cancel in that window. Once it runs, deletion is irreversible. Section 4 describes what is removed and how long it takes.
- Access, correction, deletion. You may also request a copy of, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing privacy@usehence.com.
- Starting over. Settings also offers "Start over", which clears your households, your financial profile and the product's Ask history. This is not a deletion request: your account remains, and it does not delete the usage analytics we already hold. Use the deletion options above if that is what you want.
- Disconnecting accounts. You can unlink a connected financial account at any time in the app; we stop receiving new data from it when you do.
- Marketing emails. You can opt out via the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. We may still send transactional messages about your account.
- State privacy rights. Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We honor such requests as required by applicable law.
7. Children
The Services are not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. International use
We are based in the United States and process information there. If you access the Services from elsewhere, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Services before they take effect. The "Last updated" date above reflects the current version.
